About the Club

Welcome to Riverside Writers! The mission of this organization, an established non-profit entity, is to celebrate the art and craft of writing by offering writers opportunities for personal and professional interaction with other writers; strengthening skills in the art, craft and business of writing; and advocating the literary arts in the broader local community.

The club offers workshops, panel discussions, camaraderie and expert speakers. Meetings occur at the Salem Church Library branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library system. We meet from 1 pm to 3 pm on the second Saturday of each month. Participation is also available online via Webex.

Riverside Writers was formed in Spotsylvania, Virginia, and became a chapter of the Virginia Writers Club (VWC), the statewide parent organization established in 1918. Riverside Writers is one of ten chapters of the VWC, and geographically encompasses the City of Fredericksburg, the counties of Caroline, King George, Louisa, Spotsylvania, and Stafford, and portions of the adjacent areas.

Additionally, Riverside Writers is associated with the Poetry Society of Virginia (PSV). However, both the VWC and the PSV are separate organizations, each with their own applications and dues. Membership in these literary organizations is optional and separate from Riverside Writers.

Interested in joining Riverside Writers? Please fill out this form (DOC). Club Dues may be paid directly to the treasurer at the monthly meeting, or mail a check or money order for the per annum membership amount of $15 (no cash please), along with your application, to: William Tang, Treasurer, 1440 Hartwood Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406

As a final note, the existence of Riverside Writers, and the value that may be gleaned from membership, in the main depends upon you and your fellow members. We are an organization of stories, poems, lyric and literary experiences, and a mutual thirst to express ourselves and learn our craft. As a member, you are as alone or engaged as you wish to be, while creative friends are at hand to help, advise, listen, commiserate, laugh, cry and share an amazing, creative world with you. Aside from the understanding/empathy of fellow writers, are learning opportunities, school-of-life tips, access to experts, links, and contest prospects.

Some want to be famous, some want to be rich (or at least supplement income!), some crave a touch of relative immortality, and others just feel the need to grow in the craft and express themselves – with or without an audience. You may find all types of people, talent and experience here in your club. A serious business, a hobby, a private yearning compulsion, a venue of like-minded friends… – RW has something for you! Ears will listen, tongues will teach, and peers will let you know that you are not alone. Your level of engagement and potential to contribute is up to you, but here you will find opportunity, perhaps a more effective voice, and even a jolly-good helping of interesting fun. Our purpose is your purpose — for the glory of exquisite prose, beautiful poetry, local cultural enhancement, magnificent ‘Ol Virginny …and you.
